I got hooked on the Trinity Blood anime despite its sometimes clunkly pacing so naturally I HAD to take a peek at the manga. The manga rocks! The plotline and pacing flow flawlessly in the fist volume of manga version. If you like the anime, then you'll LOVE the manga. There's action a plenty with gun-slinging and vampire fang fests. There's also a good bishie factor thanks to the main character, Abel Nightroad, who's a traveling priest for the Vactican. The plot for the manga and the anime do resemble each other closely but the manga has a lot of meat to it compared to the anime. Any gaps in the anime are explained and filled in in the manga version. Okay, here's the rundown for those who having been living under a rock and have somehow missed the anime or manga:

In the future, Armageddon has come and gone and left 3 factions fighting for supremacy: Terrans (regular humans), Methuselah (vampires) and a mysterious uknown group whose objective is to destroy the world in order to rebuild it in their image. The main character is Abel Nightroad who is a priest for the Vactian. He works for the AX division which handles all sorts of superpowered bad guys and Nightroad is the right man for the job since he is a Crusnik, a vampire that feeds off the blood of other vampires! This volume introduces the reader to Abel Nightroad, Tres Iques (AKA Gunslinger) and to Esther who may be a future love interest for Nightroad. There are hints of Abel's angst ridden past when he's not pretending to be a very bumbling otherwise average priest while the trio attempt to stop a plot to destroy the Vactian.
Abel Nightroad is a seemingly clumsy, starving priest working for the Vactian. In truth, he works for the Vactian's AX division whose mission is to stop superpowered bad guys. Abel's blumbling personality seems to be an act- for the most part anyway- since he transforms into a Crusnik which is an ubervampire that feeds off the blood of other vampires and proceeds to kick butt on a grand scale. The reason that I say that Abel's blumbling is mostly an act is beause in one scene Tres, AKA Gunslinger, whips out his guns and proceeds to shoot all the bad guys in the arms and legs with the gunfire surrounding Abel in a hail of bullets. By the time Gunslinger is done, there's a ticked and VERY singed Abel whose hair is smoking from all the gunfire. :-) Abel exclaims "...You were late, Tres, you idiot! *waah!*". Abel is a little on the bumbling side but when the going gets tough he always seems to get the job done. Abel and Tres make a fine comedic duo with Abel's clusminess and Tres being the ultimate straight guy ever since he's is an android. It's hard not to let out a chuckle or two while reading the funny scenes or at least crack a smile. The guys will enjoy watching see Abel kicking butt and the comedy. The ladies will enjoy the comedy and watching Abel who has to be THE MOST BISHIE LOOKING PRIEST EVER in anime/manga or real life for that matter. *cough! cough!* Fan service! *cough! cough!*
The artwork is stunning and if Tokyopop has any sense they'll publish a Trinity Blood artbook as soon as possible. Tokyopop is planning to release a Trinity Blood novel Trinity Blood: Rage Against the Moons which I am eagerly awaiting. The artwork in the manga is very stylish and has a great polished feel to it. This is the best artwork that I've seen in a manga in very long long time. I also like Abel's Crusnik form in the manga better since his hair in the anime reminds me of a swirled vanilla ice cream whenever I watch the anime. They did a much better job in the manga all around. This is a good manga both story and art-wise so go out and grab a copy today!
